Certification (in Germany):

The vehicle type approval booklet has to be carried on the person while driving.
An entry into the vehicle documents is possible for reasons of convenience but not mandatory.
In case your model is not listed, an expert can be consulted (western German states at TÜV, new states at Dekra) in order to have the lever be entered into your papers at the expert's discretion.
